Six Months In, How is 2026 Doing

Six months have passed so far of 2026. Now I am beginning to look down the barrel of the next six months of 2026. Six months of adventures, business change and un-foreseen head winds. I have had sheer moments of panic and moments of divine miracles. The next six months should be exciting as I transition into working for Nature Photography Collective and running workshops under that banner.
Print Sales
Every year running a photography business is kind of like doing slot machines. Last spring I had a huge order come out of the blue and saved the day. Well that kind of happened like three times this spring where I thought I was for sure destitute and one after another a print order came through.
Thanks to all you who continue to support this little business. It means the world to me.
In the end the art shows have really come through this year with St. George Art Festival functionally saving me and setting me up for success for spring.
This is kind of the nature of doing print sales. There are seasons of feast and famine. January through March was famine and May and April have been feast. Lets hope I keep eating in June.
Photography Trips
This year has been all over the place when it comes to photography trips. The first few months of this year were functionally filled with panic as I ran from teaching at Utah Tech University to the sudden jarring shift of running a photography workshop. The reality is that this has had consequences on my images; one that I didn't really notice until these past few weeks.
I was photographing in Badlands National Park and suddenly realized I was struggling creating compelling compositions. I found that I was balking at doing certain types of compositions because they required me to get down on the ground and do a lot of focus stacks. I am not opposed to this types of photography, but I realized I had become a bit... jaded... lazy towards these types of compositions. Shame on me as this essentially cut me off from opportunities that I could have been taking advantage of.
As the year has progressed, one of the odd realities that has occurred to me, I have created very few images that are not associated with, marketing for workshops. Even my family vacation was used to create and scout a workshop for the coming year.
In other words I need to get back on some creative adventures so I can begin pulling off fun photography again.
Workshops
Workshops have turned out to be outrageously fun, unbelievable tiring and mentally very challenging. I have moments where I sit and feel surprised that I am getting paid to do what I am doing. I also remember all the stress that comes before those things even launch and the amount of footwork I have to put in place to make them happen as well. It is far from easy and there is a quite a bit of planning, food prep, hotel management, and guest communication that goes on even before the first tripod leg hits the ground.
Overall I really have enjoyed the images I created during these workshops. As I do them more, the better I will get at doing them and the easier it will be to pull them off. That takes practice though, so if you want to join me on a workshop, that would be awesome! I have lots to share and lots to do.

Next Six Months of 2026
The next six months include some big opportunities for me. First are the art shows. I functionally have two really big art shows left of 2026, Utah Art Festival and Wasatch Back Art Festival. I hope these turn out well. As I look into this fall, there will probably be a bunch of small shows for me, but only time will tell.
As for workshops I have a bunch of workshops that are coming together that I am super excited for. I hope they turn out great. They just need to fill. So if you are looking for a workshop this fall, I have a few spots left for Zion and the Olympics. Then come January there is a slew of new workshop opportunities coming.
The next major thing I am working on is my Substack. I kind of suck at keeping up to date on posting, but it is a new avenue I am wanting to pursue. If you are looking for a creative to support please come my way. I will take all that I can get.
I will try to do a few more posts here. Keep an eye out for something for interior designers and possibly some educational content.

I have photographed this location a few times now, and frankly its a landscape that kind of keeps on giving. Unfortunately the rest of the world is also figuring this out. Good thing I take better photos than most people (not all though). On this morning we were graced with crimson clouds and a stunning sun rise that produced this sun star.
